NTHU and NJIT Sign Memorandum of Understanding

2023.03.16
National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Taiwan has signed a memorandum of understanding with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) on student and faculty exchange on March 16.

NTHU alumnus Jordan Hu, who founded RiskVal on Wall Street, was instrumental in arranging this cooperative arrangement. Hu graduated from NTHU's Department of Mathematics in 1984 and completed his graduate studies at NJIT.

Hu said that NTHU and NJIT have helped him a lot in growing up and pursuing the American dream, and now that he has founded a company and started a happy family, he wants to give something back to his alma maters.

Founded in 1881 in the New York metropolitan area, New Jersey Tech is the number one public university in New Jersey, ranked among the top 100 universities in the United States, and a leader in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Student enrollment at NJIT continued to grow even during the pandemic over the past three years.

During the signing ceremony NTHU president W. John Kao and NJIT president Teik C. Lim held a candid dialogue on the topic of “Innovation and Entrepreneurship.” Both emphasized that diversity is essential to sustaining innovation.

Kao said that in addition to nationality and gender, diversity also refers to one’s background, culture, and areas of concern. One of NTHU's key development strategies is to encourage students to attain cross-disciplinary expertise so that they can think outside the box and find solutions when facing rapidly changing global issues.

Teik C. Lim said that NJIT is located in the New York metropolitan area and has a highly diverse student body, especially in terms of nationality, and that the school also enjoys close ties with Wall Street, which helps open doors for students when it comes time to graduate.

While at NTHU, the NJIT delegation visited the Innovation Incubation Center and the NTHU Garage, and the two universities are also planning to carry out comprehensive exchanges in industry-university cooperation and ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) sustainable management.
